Letters from Various Architects (1968)

Of the architects featured in New Directions, Boyd appears to have had previous contact with only Yoshinobu Ashihara and Kenzo Tange. Boyd wrote to the other subjects without a formal introduction, seeking their co-operation with the book, which was universally welcomed. The letter from Ashihara (pdf) was warm and friendy, hoping to see Robin and Patricia in Japan again soon. Other responses kept on file, from Kiyonori Kikutake (pdf), Togo Murano (pdf) and Kazuo Shinohara (pdf), were more formal. These letters in reply, featuring the architects’ signature and letterheads, are an interesting record of this time.
